FAQs

Q?Do all students have to begin with TAOK? Can a student begin in the Intermediate class?
A.

This is a very important question.

TAOK’s mission is to produce quality students who are familiar with all aspects of the dance. Thus, we do have a reasonable expectation for all students who come to the Intermediate class to be able to participate in the drill lines and keep up with the flow of the class. We are technical teachers, so teaching technique and making sure students understand technique is crucial. So while we may not require that you begin with us, we do require that be ready to learn a great deal about form, technique, and style.

Q?How long does a beginner session run?
A.

A beginner session runs about 8 weeks. However, a new beginner session begins at the first of every month. Because we have 3 qualified instructors, we are able to begin our beginner sessions more frequently. Even though there can be up to three different beginner classes running at one time, we have the staff to accommodate everyone.

Q?Are all TAOK instructors qualified to teach Houston 2-Step?
A.

Each TAOK has been properly trained to teach Houston 2step. Each instructor is qualified to teach Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 (in both a lead and follow capacity).

Q?Have all TAOK instructors competed in national competitions?
A.

Each TAOK instructor has competed in several dance competitions. Furthermore, we have won both 1st and 2nd place honors.

Q?How many years has each TAOK instructor been a dancer?
A.

Walter has danced for 8 years, Iris has danced for 7 years, and JoRhon as danced for 4 years.

Q?How long does it normally take to master Houston 2-Step?
A.

The word ‘master’ is a tough word. But to master a dance, it really does take time. Even though all of the TAOK dancers are comfortable with this dance, it took each one of us a while to master the dance. It takes time, it takes practice, and it takes patience. If you really want it, you will get it.
